General Information
The
mission of Horry County Special Olympics is to provide year round
training and athletic competition to mentally disabled children
and adults residing in Horry County, South Carolina. It is our hope
that through these opportunities, our athletes will develop beneficial
life-long fitness habits, create lasting friendships, experience
the joy of competition and foster a sense of community.
Sports - Horry County currently has athletes that actively
compete in local, state and national competitions in the following
sports: Golf, Basketball, Track and Field,
Swimming, Bowling, Tennis, Bocce, Soccer and Downhill Skiing. Our
largest local athletic event occurs in April when hundreds of athletes
from all over Horry County compete in track and field events. We
also currently offer a bi-weekly bowling league and a monthly swim
program for area athletes. For more information on when events are
scheduled, please visit our "Events"
section.
Volunteers - Our organization can only be as strong as the
volunteers who are the driving force
behind it. We are a non-profit organization coordinated solely by
those giving their time and effort on a volunteer basis. We are
always looking for volunteers to act as coaches, assist in fund-raising
efforts and to assist with local athletic competitions. If you would
like to join our team, please contact us!
Sponsors - Horry County Special Olympics relies entirely
on donations from our community and funds raised through fund raising
efforts. We are deeply indebted to our sponsors for helping us to
make these wonderful opportunities available to our athletes. If
you would like to become a sponsor, please contact
us!
